The Daily Praxis: ASK!
ASK! (VULNERABILITY) -
“[They] who ask a question may be a fool for five minutes, but the one who does not ask is a fool forever.” - Proverb
Part of growing as a change maker is giving up the notion that we’ve got to be the smartest person in the room or know all there is to know about I.D.E.A. concepts and intercultural competence. That’s an anchor of the dominant culture, and it can be hard to overcome.
Simply asking what you’re unsure of is a Transformative Praxis, because asking a clarifying question about culture (in the most inter-culturally competent way we know how) stops us from making assumptions rooted in implicit biases. For example, what are your preferred pronouns? Or what terminology would best honor your indigenous identity and citizenship?
Today, let’s give ourselves permission to ask culturally clarifying questions, and incorporate this into our practice.
